Special Opening Performance: 2pm, Sunday 27th November
Season: 25th November to January 15th
This year The Helix, Dublin swaps the red carpet for a magic carpet as TheatreworX Productions return to the venue with their side-splittingly funny pantomime, Aladdin.
Taking an action packed adventure through Arabia are George McMahon (best known as the memorable Mondo in Fair City) as hero Aladdin and his forbidden love, the captivating Martha Christie (one of Ireland's top models and a classically trained singer) as Princess Jasmine. On their journey they encounter Genie Mack, played by AIMS Award winner David Latham, who will grant their wishes...oh yes he will!
With a charming love story, magic, a happily ever after and referencing everything from Justin Bieber for the kids to the evening news for grown-ups, Aladdin is a true family panto. The family Christmas sparkle also continues at The Helix with an enchanting Santa's Grotto, delicious family meals at the restaurant and easy car parking on site.
Bringing laughs as George and Martha take their magic carpet ride in Arabia's Agrabah City are West End musical performer Eoin Cannon who returns to The Helix stage as scheming villain Jafaah, comedian and actor Aidan Mannion as Jafaah's hapless idiot son Janowah and Colin Hughes as Aladdin's best mate Wishee Washee. Seasoned pantomime performer Frank Mackey stars as the sharp-tongued and quick-witted Dame Twankey and new starlet Jacqueline Brunton will shine as Jewel.
The TheatreworX story is family one led by Claire Tighe, a dynamic businesswoman with theatre in her blood. Claire started her career on stage after studying with the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, before beginning TheatreworX Productions Ltd. Supported by her three brothers and her mum and dad (Mum Rita is Costume Director on all productions) this is the fourth year they have brought the traditional family pantomime to The Helix.
TheatreworX includes a Stage School with over 350 students, an Academy @ The Helix, a Production Company and The Agency, which will represent select students and adults for professional work within the industry is on the way.
Aladdin is written and directed by Karl Harpur, Claire's close friend of 20 years. This collaboration started with amateur panto for their local musical society LMVG, whilst they both treaded the boards on the professional circuit. The resulting productions were so good that Claire took a leap of faith and convinced the CEO of The Helix to give TheatreworX a shot at producing the first professional pantomime at The Helix! TheatreworX are now on their fourth Helix panto with Karl writing and directing, the choreography is by Claire Tighe and Gillian Grueber who both bring their West End experience to the numbers and David Hayes acts as musical director.

DayOut visited on Friday 6 Jan and what a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon for kids and parents. A superb cast give a resounding performance and keep the audience entertained from start to finish. Star of the show for us was Jafar played by Eoin Cannon. Wonderful as the baddie but manages to win the crowd over judging by the closing applause. Jewel played by Jacqueline Bruton is also great to watch. Janowah played by Aidan Mannion plays the funnie and ensures plenty of laughs. We spoke with several audience goers afterwards and all enjoyed this show. With just one week left, there's still time to catch this great show. Very enjoyable and highly recommended by DayOut
