Dublin tenth cheapest for hotels

Dublin's tourism industry received another timely boost yesterday, with results from a new survey ranking the city as the tenth cheapest with regards to hotel prices across the world. With the days growing colder and memories of summer holidays growing ever more distant with each passing day, many British tourists, along with holiday-makers from the USA and even further afield, have been scouring the internet searching for the perfect late autumn/early winter city break, and the results of this particular survey will surely add another feather to Dublin's already considerably attractive hat.

The findings revealed that the average price per room in Dublin hotels fell by a considerable 7% between the second quarter of 2009 and the current date, meaning that Ireland can continue to boast the cheapest city for hotels in Western Europe, despite the city becoming ever more popular with families, couples, and groups of tourists looking for something a little different from their short break abroad.

With London hotels seeing significant rises in prices during the same period that saw the costs in Dublin decline, it wouldn't be a surprise to see a large number of tourists choose the Irish city over the English capital for their winter break. Price, of course, isn't the only factor in such a decision, with safety concerns currently plaguing the cities of London, Berlin, and Paris.

The good news for those involved in the Dublin tourist industry is that the city is ideally placed to take full advantage of any increase in interest that results from the recent survey's findings, since the number of major events set to light up the city over the coming dark and gloomy months is a scintillating prospect.

The Dublin Marathon (which always attracts a high proportion of runners from overseas) will this year take place on the 25th of October, just a day after the popular fireworks display at Marlay Park. As we approach Christmas, the Christmas Market set up in Dublin Docklands is sure to be one of the top attractions for visitors to the city, with the market erected on the 3rd of December and certain to keep the tourists entertained (and adequately fed and watered!) right up until the 22nd of the month.

There's always so much to see and do in Dublin and, with the hotel prices clearly heading in the right direction from a tourism point of view, there's arguably never been a better time to visit.
