From DayOut.ie, April 2010 about Whytes of Stamullen, Co Meath
DayOut.ie have visited and can recommend the food and venue - we know of people travelling from as far away as Belfast to experience the restaurant food!. Friendly and professional staff ensure a perfect service and great athmosphere every time. Truly enjoyable!.
From Sinead, Apr 2010 about Kia-Ora Mini Farm
We went there today (Easter Sunday) and were delighted. Our toddler was in his element. The Easter Bunny gave every child a little bag with mini eggs in it. There was a puppet show on too. The staff were so helpful, offering the kids to pet and feed the animals. There are dozens of toys around the place for the kids to play with and the little man loved it, running from one tractor to the next. He loved the fire engine. I found it hard to get information online about prices but it was 7 euro per person, adult or child. We are definitely going back. We also thought it would be good on a wet day as there were a lot of covered areas. Great day out, our little fellow was just in his element. We didn't use the coffee shop but it looked good and big, room for buggies and child friendly.
From Sinead, Nov about Irish Country Quads, Monaghan
Excellent centre, couldn't have been more helpful. They made it a fantastic day for the group, made sure we were well looked after and we got way more out of it than expected. Safety was very important and the quad bike obstacle course was great fun. Would definitely recommend this place and will be going back.
From Matt, Nov about 'Christmas Experience at Funtasia Waterpark' on the DayOut web site
even better information than funtasia's own website
From Piotr, Nov about the Fun Factory, Kildare
Indoor Play Centre for Kids. Best place that i ever have been. My 4 year old had great fun in nice, clean structures. He loved cups and saucer ride. Cafe was very clean as well with nice and healthy food. Recommend to every one.
From Hannah, Nov about the Landmark Hotel, Leitrim
I went to a friends hen party recently in Carrick on Shannon. We're all in our 30s now and so while great fun it wasn't all playboy bunny tails. We booked a Cocktail Master Class in the new Cocktail Bar in the Landmark Hotel. The bar is absolutely fabulous. There's a massive big window ove-looking the Shannon and the 'mixologist' who took us through the steps individually was brilliant - really good at showing us how to make the cocktails and really good fun too. We all made 4 cocktails each and got to drink them all - they were yummy!! We had nibbles too and were given a certificate on completion. It was a great afternoon and a great idea for a Hen weekend - everyone should be told about it!!!!
From Thomas, Nov about Irish Farm Safari, Westmeath
This is a fantastic venue for a day out. There is plenty to see, and Greg, the Safari tour guide is a real character. Apart from a large herd of deer there are camels, emus, scotish highland bulls. llamas and and and. Farm Safari really deserves its name - they have a multitude of animals there.
I would recommend Farm Safari for school tours, or for hosting a really cool party with a great BBQ. They have this massive covered trailer to drive you around and a huge log cabin, even if it rains you'll have a nice day.
From Brian, 26th Oct about Finnstown House, Dublin
Spent a night here recently, nice hotel and setting, staff very friendly, rooms comfortable. Got a great deal on DayOut.ie, better than the one on Finnstowns own site
From Chris, 16th October about Elite Force Paintball

From Marion, 28th Sept about the Green Santa at Belvedere House, Westmeath
What a wonderful idea. I think this will be well worth the trip-can anyone advise time journey in car from Dublin?
From Sean, 20th Sept about the Square Shopping Centre, Dublin
Pretty good place, good shops, very easy to access, unfortunately, you uesed to get free parking, now you have to pay, which is indeed silly
From Karen F, 2nd Sept 2009 about Leahy's Open Farm, Cork
Having looked at the website we were looking forward to visiting the farm....however on arrival it was soon obvious that they must have used great imagination to create those images as the reality was very different. At 8 Euros per person (same fee for adults and children) the farm was extremely overpriced for the quality of the attraction. The animal pens were cramped and very dirty and do not be fooled by the indoor play area, only a brave parent would let their child actually play in there.
All in all a very disappointing visit and one which we will certainly not be repeating.
From Kevin, 30th Aug about Funtasia Waterpark
Recommend this for all the family. A+++++++++++++++++++
From Mary M, 22nd Aug 2009 about Funtasia Waterpark
Went to funtasia with my sister and six children ranging in age from 7 to 17 - each and every one of us had a brilliant time - stayed in waterpark for 4 hours!! only complaint was the ladies toilets were not too fragrant!! Busier than other times we have been but the queues moved quickly and the staff were friendly, good-humoured and helpful. would definitely recommend it.
From Ciaran J, 22nd Aug 2009 about Newbridge House
Newbridge house last time home was a real treat, the weather was great and i really enjoyed the walk around the house and that pig was huge!! look forward to a return visit. good job dayout.ie, the photos look great....
From R.Matthews 20th Aug 2009 about Funtasia Waterpark
Parents Beware!!! On Thursday (2/7/09) being a dull rainy afternoon I decided to take two of my children and three of their friends to Funtazia Water Park in Drogheda. Having been regular visitors during last summer's dull ,rainy days I was shocked and amazed to discover signs informing me that as and from 28th June spectators were no longer allowed into "swimming area" and that children under 12 were not allowed in unless they were supervised. Wondering how this was going to work out, as I was not intending to swim with them and so had no swimsuit with me, and as before had intended to keep a close eye on my charges from the viewing/sitting dock upstairs within the pool area. When I enquired, I was told I could go in if I paid €11 the same price as each of the children's admission prices. Again I explained ,that with no dis-respect to Funtazias Lifeguards, I didn't want to use the water slides etc.etc, I just wanted to sit and keep an eye on my children -as I had done all last summer. But to no avail-I was told to pay up or go!!!Shame on Funtazia for ripping off parents, during the summer holidays- especially in this economic climate!!!!!Parents beware and don't be caught out by this shameful act!!
From Tony, 18th Aug 2009 about Leisureland Redcastle, Donegal
Hi, I just had a quick look at the Leisureland website. I'm from the area and have fond memories of leisure land. Would like to give some constuctive feedback based on the website, it isn't very good by comparison to other sites. The photos are dark, you can see a lot of dust underneath the indoor safari track, the young lad working has his arms folded and looks non-plussed, photos are generally dark and unwelcoming, bumping cars do not look enticing with the blank walls, flooring looks a bit poor. Sorry to write this, it is just my opinion but it was just my first impression. kind regards, Tony
From Siobhan M, 15th Aug 2009 about Crosbies Cedar Hotel, Wexford
I went with my husband and 2 children to Rosslare for a few nights at the beginning of August to visit relatives and we stayed in the Crosbie Ceders Hotel. The hotel itself is lovely. We got a very good impression when we first walked in but then when we saw our room it was very basic. There was a small tv and the plug sockets were kind of hanging off the wall. The rooms could do with a bit of modernising. The rest of the hotel is lovely however. The food was fabulous. We had breakfast there each morning which consisted of your usual full irish or continental. We ate one evening in the restaurant and one evening in the bar and there was empty plates each night. It is a very child friendly hotel with entertainment mon - thurs over the summer. My two girls really enjoyed the kids disco on the thurs evening. We would definitely stay there again its just a pity about the rooms.
From Siobhan M, 15th Aug 2009 about Glenroe Open Farm
I have 2 girls a 13month old and a 3 year old and both of them really enjoyed the farm. All of the animals are close to you so even my little 13 month old could see and pet them. My 3 year old got to hold a rabbit and i myself held a gerbil. The farm is only small but there are enough animals to see. There are loads of picnic tables but also a cafe if you prefer to sit inside. If you were a fan of Glenroe then you`ll find the cafe decorated with pictuers of all your favourite characters and their story. We brought a picnic and then just bought coffee there. There is an excellent playground which both my girls really enjoyed. Theres a lovely nature walk for when you`re finished looking at the animals where you can see different trees, flowers, insects etc. There is a secret garden where you can look out for animals sitting in the trees. Unfortunately the day we went it had lashed the day before so the garden was pretty mucky and we couldnt walk around it. There is also an old house (museum)filled with old furniture and toys which brings you back to your childhood. Was a fun filled day for us all and we had 2 very tired girls that night. Definitely worth a visit.
From Siobhan M, 14th Aug 2009 about Dublin Zoo
Brilliant day out for the whole family. Check out the Meet the keeper talk times before you go so that you can plan your day around them. We arrived at 11.15am just in time to hear the Meet the keeper talk on the Tigers of which there are 2 babys only 3months old so cute!! We then made our way around the zoo in the direction of the elephants who were getting fed at 12.30pm and as it was a very hot day they were hosed down too which my 2 little girls loved. The next feeding was the sealions at 2.15pm i advise you to get there early as it gets very packed. There is also a baby sealion. The penguins got fed directly after at 2.30pm. Then came the walk around the African plains where the Giraffes, Zebras and Rhinos have a new area to run around in. Its done up brilliant you can see them all up close whereas before they used to be very far away. The only thing i think is a shame about Dublin zoo is the Pets corner. It needs a bit of a re-vamp too. The wishing chair could do with a lick of paint. All in all a great day we didnt leave the zoo till 5.30pm so had 2 very tired children that night!!
From Siobhan, 12th Aug 2009 about RDS Dublin Horse Show.
I won the family pass on your website. Had a brill day, so much to see and do and that was before visiting the horses!!
Food, clothing, antiques, jewellery, make up, gifts, petting zoo. I could have spent days there. I am a horse lover so I was trying to divide my time and see all.
Keep Dublin Horse show Aug 2010 marked on your calendar its well worth a visit. Thanks again for the great prize!!
From Anon, 10 Aug 2009 about Funtasia Water Park
Check out Funtasia's new day packages they are great value you book in advance at least a day before you arrive and you get savings of up to 10 euro per person go to www.funtasia.ie and press click here for special day offers to read about the packages Funtasia offer.
From Dee, 08 August about Fort Lucan Outdoor Adventureland
I brought 3 children it cost 32 euro - there was no family ticket available. My children are aged 4, 5 and 11. I think my main "quibble" is that even after paying the entrance fee you still had to pay on the water slides. I found it a very expensive day out and will not be going again - as it's just a glorified playground.
From Mary, 07 Aug 2009 about Crag Cave and Crazy Cave Indoor Softplay
Caves very interesting, called on our way with our 2 smaill children on way up from Killarney, was dissapointed when I wanted to let children play, they wanted me to pay for 2 hours even though we only wanted to stay for 30 mins, and wanted to charge me for our 1 year old, this really is typical of the rip off it is to holiday in Ireland.
From Martina, 06 Aug 2009 about Corlea Trackway Visitor Centre
Hi I am interested in visiting this center with an American friend but find that this site is not very informative to say the least. Very shot on information
From Majella, 05 August 2009 about Kia-Ora Mini Farm
Quite expensive and not a lot to see fire engine ride is crap and very bumpy didn't even turn on siren no puppies as stated in advert. the so called guide that brought us around was not very friendly and didn't tell use one thing about any of the animals. and the tractors are two old tractors with flat tiers
From Elena, 01 Aug 2009 about Funtasia Waterpark, Drogheda
Went to the waterpark on Monday 6th July. I was really impressed. Cost was €11 per person to stay as long as you like. We stayed about 2 and a half hours. My boys age 8 and 10 had a fantastic time as they had the confidence to explore alone and then meet up to go on the big slides together. It is a very large complex and you can easily get separated but that didn't bother us. It was warm enough and theres a jacuzzi for over 16's. If you are attending with a baby/toddler and another child I would recommend 2 adults be present (one to stay with the baby and the other to keep the older child company on the big slides). I will definitely be going back again.
From John, 28th July 2009 about Cavan and Leitrim Railway
The Cavan & Leitrim Railway is a total scrapyard but if decrepit buses and ice cream vans are your thing.....
From John, 26th July 2009 about News Article Ireland Still Too Expensive for Tourists
It's not just an exchange rate issue, we visted Honfleur, France early June 09, and a 3 course meal, including Moules Mariniere as a starter, was about 15 -16€, and of course a pichet of wine for about 6€. Visited Bantry in July and Moules (where they grow them in the bay) just for starters were 12 to 13€ alone, with another 15€ or more for the main course - no thanks we ate in at our cottage. And a lot of that food came from the UK as we were advised by the owner to bring as much as we can in the car - including toilet rolls (!!) which seem to be twice the price in Ireland!
From Nicola, 22nd July 2009 about FREE Days Out - National Museum Ireland Country Life, Co Mayo
We have been to the museum on at least 4 occasions. There is always something to see that we 'missed' last time. Each level has kids colouring trolleys to keep the little ones happy and interested. Interactive games are great fun. The restaurant is lovely with plenty of choice from sandwiches and soup to main meals, really tasty ans clean.
From Brian, 20th July about Ramada Hotel & Suites at Killerig Golf Resort, Carlow
Many thanks for a very pleasurable stay, the kids loved the kids club, and the girl who was in charge of this was very good and friendly. Also, the staff in all other sectors of the hotel were very helpful and friendly, and I cant speak highly enough of them. The hotel itself is great, the leisure centre is very kid-friendly, and the bar and restaurant of good standard, with a good pint of Guinness!!!
The rooms are nice and modern, with excellent views from the balconies. All in all, a very enjoyable stay (aside from the weather, and nothing you can do about that!) We will definitely consider again as a family break.
From Tanya, 16th July 2009 about Cavan Conoeing
I recently visited Cavan Canoeing with my friends to hire out kayaks for the day. It was a great experience, the setting was amazing, the centre was very modern and the owner was very helpful on what route to take. We settled on visiting Clogh Oughter Castle and enjoyed a well deserved break at the Castle before heading back. We spent a few hours on the river and hire of kayaks was very reasonable for the day. Would definitely recommend and would go back again.
From the Doyle Family, 12 July 2009 about Turoe Pet Farm & Leisure Park, Galway
Just back from a short break in Galway. Visited Turoe Pet Farm and it was fantastic. our girls 6 and 3 enjoyed getting up close with the farm animals. The farm also has two well equipped play areas and mini football pitch to keep active kids busy. Also inflatable Indoor City was awesome according to the girls. A great day out was had by all the family. Highly recommend it!!!!
From Martin, 08 July 2009 about Westport House, Gardens & Pirate Adventure Park
Visited Westport House recently with friends and family, we all had a fantstic time. There is plenty to see and do and the House is fabulous with lots of brilliant rooms and antiques on display. For the kids the Pirate Park is a winner, based around the pirate queen Grace O'Malley there is a ships galleon thrill ride and a log flume and plenty more. Great place, great setting, great day out. Highly recommend it to anyone and we will be returning asap.
Dee, 07 July 2009 about Kinsale Arts Week, Cork
Lots of family events on at this festival too which keeps the kids happy ;-)
Henry, 05 July 2009 about Event 'In Conversation: Corcadorca '
Sorry, I just didn't enjoy it. I didn't engage with the story as told by the chorus and acted out using barbie and ken dolls. The lines from pop songs inserted here and there seemed pointless. There were times where I couldn't escape the realisation that I was sitting on an uncomfortable seat with people with perfect diction speaking loudly at me, occasionally playing with dolls, and having the odd stab at a joke. And the buffet certainly ain't all that.
Caroline, 03 July 2009 about Kia-Ora Mini Farm, Wexford
Spent a week in Wexford in June and we visited Kia Ora Mini Farm 3 times as we could relax and let the children wear themselves out while we had a coffee and chat and they just loved it. Would definitely recommend as a safe place and the fire engine ride is a great pleasure. The music choice on it was excellent and we all sang along
From Martha, 03 July 2009 about Birr Equestrian Centre, Offaly
Noel Cosgrave and his staff are extremely knowledgeable and very patient and kind. They go the extra mile to ensure that you have the best equestrian experience possible. My family and I had the time of our lives on our rides with Mr. Cosgrave, both at the Centre itself and at the Slieve Bloom Mountains. We would ALL highly recommend time spent with the Birr Equestrian Centre!
From Niamh, 02 July 2009 about Newbridge House & Traditional Farm, Dublin
Newbridge House is a fantastic day out. The playground is very big and there's something for all ages. The picnic area is second to none - you can even bring your bbq and there's somewhere to safely dispose of the ashes. The large pet farm was very reasonable and a big hit with my 8 and 6 year olds.
From Joe, referring to news article Ireland still to expensive for tourists
Unfortunately the prices in Ireland are now way beyond most holiday makers ability to pay! Sadly much of this hyke in prices is fuelled by pure greed and unfortuantely the lesson won't be learned until it is just too late... I have cut my trips home down to 1 a year from 4 a year and even that is a challenge with your prices!
From John, 01 July 2009 about Fingal Airsoft, Meath
I have to say one of the best days out ever!! Forget paintball this beats it hands down every time, real looking guns and the game play and tactics this place provides is just amazing. Thanks Bren for an unforgettable day, this place is a must for anybody with kids from 11yrs and up. It's just like playing Call of Duty for real. John Byrne
From Karen, 1st June 2009 about Whelyn Lodges, Cork
I took a weekend break at the Whelyn lodges over the bank holiday weekend with 5 of my friends. THe drive from Cork although it was about an hour and a half is through some stuning scenery especially as you come out of glengariff and you can see the entire penninsula made the drive worth while. On arrival we were met by JJ the manager on duty who showed us to our luxury lodge. They advertise affordable luxury and certainly live up to that name. the bedrooms are large with carpeted floors and ensuites with plunge showers, a jacuzzi bath in the main bathroom, large living and kitchen area with open fire and all the mod cons as well as a private decking area, we were extremely impressed.
The grounds of the location ae beautifully landscaped and we spent an enjoyable evening sitting on the pier watching the sun sink behind the rolling hills, the location is simply stunning. It is a quick jaunt to the nearby town of castletowmbere with pubs and restaurants , we did some sailing in the nearby adrigole sailing school and also walked hungry hill. I will most definitely come back to this special place and would recommend it to anyone thinking of taking a break

Is that the good weather I see out my window?? There's no better feeling than a Friday on a bank holiday weekend. If you're young, free and single you may be heading to the beer garden on your way home.
I'm getting ready to go home and go straight to my garden and play with the kids. It's a wonderful time and I shall endeavour to read this article myself on Tuesday morning when we are all back to work. Speaking of the kids - keep an eye out soon for a fab new web site called Tots 2 Teens which is launching in June.
The big one as we mentioned this weekend is Bloom 2009 at the Phoenix Park. Keep an eye out for the dayout team who will be dropping in to see what's happening! In the meantime, have a wonderful weekend, drive safely if travelling - do not be a statistic this weekend!! Take care and enjoy...

Popped into the local shop yesterday evening and there were plenty of red faces, red arms and red bodies to be seen. I hope you will be okay today - we did mention the cream yesterday!
Just a quick note to say that you may have seen our news article about web site design. It's a wonderful little package and includes everything you need to get your business out there on the Internet. This package will increase your coverage in google and other search engines, so stop spending crazy amounts on google adwords and have your web site do some work for you!.
It's a bit cooler out there today but at least we got the grass done yesterday before the rain comes again. Back shortly with some great ideas for the weekend...

Wow! Looks like they got it right for once.....a fab day. The sound of lawnmowers going and the waft of fresh cut grass - I know it's Sunday and it's a day of rest - we're all pagans!
Remember to keep the suncream on - there is a healthy breeze which can be deceiving so plenty of cream on yourself and the little ones. That's the forecast for the Meath area anyway - what's it like where you are?
With that breeze, it's a great day for sailing!
Sat 23rd May 2009

Thank you very much to Failte Ireland who bought us dinner last night at the Net Visionary Awards. There was a lot more I wanted to say gentlemen but you seemed to leave the room very quickly after the award ceremony?. I did enjoy the brief chat we had however. There really needs to be a congress held by Failte Ireland once every year where they can meet web site operators/online business owners and other operators who are promoting the tourism industry - you could learn an awful lot Failte Ireland! Web sites like DayOut.ie are not competing with Failte Ireland :)
Hi to the blonde lady in the stunning red dress that was sitting behind the Failte Ireland table (think TG4 table?) Please get in touch with DayOut.ie as we would like you to be our mascot!!. Thanks to Enterprise Ireland and the Irish Internet Association for the award ceremony and we look forward to being involved again next year.
Congrats to Muzu.tv who won to overall Net Visionary Award - enjoyed the speech lads - very inspiring and keep up the good work.
Wed 20th May 2009
Anyone noticed that you have to squint to see the Fianna Fail logo on the election posters? Wonder what they're trying to hide?!!
Tuesday 19th May 2009
Thanks to Marcus Downey for the moan about Meteor ToGo. Only available in Dublin and Cork? Come on Meteor - it's 2009 - not 1999!! Suppose you have to dial up to it as well! Wouldn't mind but aren't Meteor owned by Eircom? It's okay Meteor, users can just buy mobile Internet from O2 or Vodafone.
Which brings me on to another point, while we're all having a moan....Fair Trade Coffee - great to see that for the past number of years all the major coffee companies have been actively advertising and promoting their involvement in this. Emm.....so why weren't you always doing this? Does this mean that before we had 'fair trade' coffee, all these companies were actively buying & selling and therefore promoting coffee practices that were not fair trade? Maybe someone who works for one of the big companies can answer this for us??
Oh yeh and another one - the toliet cage - bear with me I have a point here...... It's a new strategy in marketing from the big companies - by highlighting the benefits of their new products, they actually exaggerate the faults of their previous products - which they sold to us and like mugs, emmm we actually bought.
They tell us now that we should use their 'NEW' products because the cages they all told us to put in our toilets to keep them clean and fresh and which we all did for years, actually harbour germs! Emmm.....ok.
Leading chemists tell us now that the wash basin (and that includes our tootbrushes....yuk!) should be at least 6 feet away from the toilet bowl due to the germs that are transmitted on every flush. Thanks lads, I'll make absolutely certain sure to include your products on my next shopping list!!
Monday 18th May 2009
Not only is it a Monday but it's another beautiful day......for the ducks. Understand the weather is supposed to be like this until the weekend - crikey!
Sunday 17th May 2009
We've had a lot of correspondence about our 'write for dayout.ie' section - it's free and if you want to get something published, just send to it info@dayout.ie and we'll publish it on our site for our users.
